The recipe is reduced to the essentials. Cosanea only contains what a toothpaste really needs: 100% natural, high-quality and preferably regional ingredients - all vegan! We really tell you what's in it and what it does to your teeth.

What's in our toothpaste

Magnolia Bark Extract

Magnolia bark extract, also known as honokiol, is a phytochemical and thus a natural substance.

It is valued for its numerous beneficial effects, especially its antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. In Asia, magnolia bark extract has been used in Chinese medicine for 2000 years. It can be applied either orally, parenterally (injection) or externally on the skin. The antibacterial agent contained in the magnolia bark extract helps to kill germs and bacteria in the mouth and throat. Through this effect, it helps to prevent halitosis, helps to protect teeth from decay and has a healing effect on inflammations of the gums or throat.

The antibacterial properties of the magnolia bark extract also help to naturally preserve our toothpaste.

Sodium fluoride

Fluorides are the salts of fluorine. The human body also contains fluorides, mainly in bones and teeth.

Sodium fluoride helps harden tooth enamel, helps remineralizing the teeth and makes them more resistant to acids.
This is how it prevents tooth decay. Thanks to its antimicrobial properties it also prevents plaque and inflammations .

Our Lemon Ratanhia Clove Toothpaste contains a very low 500 ppm level of sodium fluoride. Which is ideally suited for use by small children from the first Milk tooth - harmless cleaning fun also in case of accidental ingestion.

Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate

Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate is a 100% herbal surfactant of natural origin and is characterized by its excellent mucous membrane compatibility and its very good biodegradability. As a mild foaming agent it improves the effect of the cleaning agent and thus helps to prevent discolouration of the teeth and to preserve the natural whiteness of the teeth.

In addition, our mild foaming agent supports the even distribution of the toothpaste in the mouth when brushing, which makes it easier to optimally clean teeth that are difficult to reach.

Sorbitol

Sorbitol occurs naturally in certain fruits, such as the berries of the mountain ash (rowanberry, Sorbus aucuparia), hence its name.

Because of its excellent moisturizing effect sorbitol acts as a humectants in our toothpastes to keep them from drying out. In combination with other ingredients it also ensures that the toothpaste tastes wonderfully fresh.

In addition, sorbitol helps reduce acid production by the bacteria that cause plaque and tooth decay.

Xylitol/ Birch sugar

Xylitol is a natural anticariogenic. This means that it counteracts tooth decay without any harmful side effects.

Due to its antibacterial and remineralizing properties, the alkaline xylitol is ideal for healthy oral hygiene. Caries bacteria cannot break down and convert xylitol into teeth-damaging acids. This prevents plaque and tartar formation and reduces tooth decay. Xylitol can promote the healing of teeth with caries at a very early stage and provide prophylactic protection against caries.

Xanthan/ Xanthan Gum

Xanthan is one of the naturally occurring carbohydrates (polysaccharides). It cannot be metabolized by the human organism and is therefore classified as dietary fiber.

Xanthan acts as a binding agent to give our toothpaste its consistency. It can bind several ingredients in our toothpaste formulation together and improve flow properties. Due to its moisturizing effect it is very skin-friendly.

Calcium carbonate

Calcium carbonate, also known as whitewash, is a 100% natural, mineral cleaning agent. As such it forms the basis for a gentle and thorough cleaning of the teeth.

Gently, i.e. with a mild abrasion effect, it removes plaque and polishes the tooth surfaces without scratching them. As a result, it can help to whiten teeth and inhibit the formation of new tartar.

Calcium carbonate has an acid-regulating effect and binds toxins. It strengthens and repairs tooth enamel.

Glycerin

We use purely plant-based glycerin from controlled organic cultivation.

Glycerine provides moisture, it ensures that our toothpaste does not dry out and remains nice and supple for use in the dispenser bottle. It binds moisture and helps to keep it in the toothpaste.

Glycerin has antibacterial properties and is completely harmless to our health. As a component of the skin's own moisture retention system it is even particularly compatible with the (mucous) skin in a low concentration.

Aqua/ water

Purified water liquefies the toothpaste formula and mixes all the ingredients.

Menthol

Menthol occurs naturally in the essential oil of various plants. For example in corn mint, grown in Japan or China, in peppermint, in spearmint, in pennyroyal mint and in tarragon, basil, marjoram, oregano, rosemary, sage and thyme.

Menthol has cooling, refreshing and antibacterial properties and thus causes long-lasting fresh breath.

Blood orange oil

We use blood orange oil from controlled organic cultivation. As an essential oil, it not only provides a very pleasant, fruity, fresh taste, but also has a disinfecting effect. It can protect the teeth, strengthen the gums and promote the healing of gingivitis.

Fennel oil

We use fennel oil from controlled organic cultivation. With its sweet and spicy taste, the fennel oil in our toothpaste makes your mouth feel fresh and has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antimicrobial effects in the mouth.

Lemon oil

We use lemon oil from controlled organic cultivation. Lemon oil is extracted from the peel of lemons, but unlike lemon juice, it does not contain any acid. It has a wonderfully fresh citrus taste, contains substances that are important for our health, such as folic acid and potassium, and has an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect in the mouth. In addition, lemon oil can help to naturally whiten teeth, strengthen gums and prevent inflammation of the oral mucosa.

Clove blossom oil

We use clove blossom oil from controlled organic cultivation. Clove oil has been used in dentistry for centuries due to its disinfecting, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and above all its pain-relieving effect in the oral cavity.

Ratanhia root Oil

Ratanhia root extracts, like the oil, are traditionally used in oral care products to treat inflammation in the mouth and throat. The tannins in particular, which the ratanhia root contains in large quantities, have an astringent effect, which promotes the healing of sore spots in the oral mucosa. Due to its antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and gum-strengthening effect, it helps to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi and thus prevents inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat, gingivitis and aphthous ulcers.

Olea Europaea Fruit Oil / Olive Oil

Olive oil is not only a wonderfully healthy component in salads, it also cares for the gums and teeth. Rich in unsaturated fatty acids, olive oil has an anti-inflammatory, restructuring, antibacterial and detoxifying effect and naturally helps to prevent bleeding gums, painful aphthous ulcers and bad breath.

Lactic Acid

Important to know: lactic acid itself is not necessarily an animal product! The name often leads to confusion.

We use vegan lactic acid, which is produced through a fermentation process.

In our toothpaste, a very mild lactic acid content regulates and stabilizes the pH value of the formula and in this way also inhibits the growth of microbial germs.

Limonene, Linalool, Citral, Eugenol

Limonene, linalool, citral and eugenol are 100% naturally occurring ingredients in our essential oils.
The concentration of these ingredients is so low that the application is absolutely harmless.
